An
Arizona man is in police custody after allegedly punching and trying to
strangle his wife, reportedly telling her that his “Islamic belief” gives him
the right to kill her, WFSB-TV reported.
According
to court paperwork, Ansar Muhammad, 43, attacked his wife over the weekend
after accusing her of having an affair.
He
reportedly carried her from the family home to his car before driving and
parking behind a local pharmacy, where he purportedly punched her repeatedly
and attempted to cut off her air supply.
Muhammad
allegedly then brought his wife back to their home, where he threatened to
throw her in a nearby lake; she cannot swim.
He
then took away her phone and sexually assaulted her, according to court
paperwork.
The
couple’s three children were apparently asleep inside the home at the time of
the incident.
The
woman was able to phone police after her husband fell asleep.
Muhammad
was reportedly arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of aggravated and sexual
assault as well as unlawful imprisonment. He is being held without bond.
