Vincent Enyeama, who recently won the Marc-Vivien FoƩ award
for the best African player in Ligue 1 after an outstanding 2013-14 season
which saw him keep a clean sheet for 1,061 minutes in 14 straight games does
not consider himself as the best African goalkeeper
this out-going season. The
former Enyimba player believes there are other goalies in Africa that do good
jobs and who deserve greater rewards. See what he said....."There are so many good African goalies... But they do not all have the chance to be at the front of the stage. There is also the Togolese goalkeeper of Reims [ Kossi Agassa ] , who did an amazing job there. There is also Austin Ejide who plays in Israel. He is really a superstar there. He just has not had the chance to be on the front of the stage, as I have. There is also Carlos Kameni, the Cameroon goalkeeper, and also Charles Itandje, another Cameroonian. They are all top class guardians. I have great respect for them,"
Enyeama was the first
goalkeeper and the first Nigerian to win the Marc- Vivien Foe Award. The
Nigerian beat Toulouse FC's Ivorian right-back Serge Aurier and Olympique
Lyonnais' Cameroonian left-back Henri Bedimo to the honour, which was voted
upon by French football journalists and orchestrated by Radio France
International and France 24.
