The group described the failure of the federal government to end the academic war as a clear indication of its neglect of Polytechnic education in the country.
In the letter signed by its National Chairman, Emmanuel Ojo and Secretary, Olayode Omorayewa which was made available to DailyPost, the group is accusing the government of only showing concern about University education and ignoring the nation’s polytechnics.
It added that government immediately swung into action to resolve the issues of ASUU when they protested, but ignoring the polytechnic sector as if it was not part of its agenda.
FONPAA emphasised that polytechnic education had major roles to play for national development.
The letter reads, “We had on several occasions called the attention of the government to the importance of the two education system. We again wish to reiterate that the two institutions play complementary roles in enhancing national development.
“While University education is theoretically oriented, polytechnic education is technologically biased. For any country to be developed, it has to be technologically determined. This is the more reason why Polytechnic education has to be handled with all sensitivities in Nigeria. As the roles of the two education models are complimentary, the discrimination and disparity between the two Certificates are unwarranted.
The Alumni forum, however charged the government to resolve the issue of dichotomy of polytechnic and University graduates.
